Pride month is officially upon us, and this year Hamilton, Ontario is bringing the party to Pride. In the past Hamilton hasn’t been known for its Pride month festivities, many Hamiltonians feeling to Toronto for more elaborate celebrations. But with a new leader and team at the helm, Pride Hamilton is bringing a full month of queer events back to the city!
I’ve been so lucky to find myself amongst a friend group of some hella queer people, some who I consider pillars of the Hamilton queer party scene, so I’m really excited to be celebrating with them all month. Here are some events that I’m particularly excited for…
Queer Social Board Gaming Night!
Board games are one of my favourite past times that I rarely get to do. In high school, I would play a board game at least every week with my family or friends. Settlers of Catan was my battle of choice; it was the game that never got boring for myself and all my friends. That friend group ended up being 95% queer people too (we all separately came out after the fact), so queerness and board games are near and dear to my heart!
Later tonight (Wednesday the 13th), Pride Hamilton is having a queer board game social at Gameopolis starting at 7 pm! I’m not 100p sure I’m attending yet (yay social anxiety), but it’s on my calendar nonetheless. For more information, visit the Facebook event.
OG2.0: Pride Edition Beach Party
Oral Groove 2.0 is a woman, trans and gender rebel party in HamOnt put on by Queer Outta Hamilton. Put on at the Casbah, the event aims to “bring women and trans folk together across generations for a night of music and dancing”. Despite it being put on frequently, I’ve never been to OG2.0, so hopefully, I’ll make it there this weekend!
OG2.0 starts at 9 pm on Friday, June 15th. Cover is $5. For more info, visit the Facebook event.
Polyester Super Queer Dance Party
I’ve talked about Polyester multiple times on my blog in the past, usually in my Wrap (it) Up monthly posts. Polyester Super Queer is the most popping queer dance party in the city, and it’s run by DJ Rose, a friend of mine. The night features awesome performances by drag queens, and tunes spun by Rose herself, as well as guest DJs. Everyone comes decked out in their best queer gear, making the night so fun to attend. Seriously, I never like dancing as much as I love dancing at Polyester.
Polyester: Pride Party will be at This Ain’t Hollywood at 10 pm on Saturday, June 16th. Cover is typically $10. Come early, cause the line can get longggggg. For more info, visit the Facebook event.
Pride Hamilton: Park Day 2018 + Rally: OUT. LOUD. PROUD
A big gay park day is always a highlight of Pride festivals worldwide. This year Hamilton Pride is hosting a Park Day at Gage Park to end of the main festival weekend. Being out in the sun with a bunch of queers is a Mood ™ and I’m so ready to soak up the sun. There’s going to be a bunch of vendors, performances, and a free BBQ. There will also be a rally and a march around the park to start out the festivities in the morning.
Gallagher’s Queer Pub Night
Hamilton Pride events don’t just end at the main weekend of events (thank goodness, I’m ready to be loud and proud all month). John St S pub, Gallagher’s, is hosting their monthly Queer Pub Night again, this month with a Pride edition!
Queer Pub Night will be held on Thursday June 28th and there’s no cover! Check out the Facebook event for details.
Dessert: Summer Melt Edition
The last event I have on my list isn’t a Pride specific one and actually isn’t even in June, but July. I couldn’t feature it on this list though as it’s going to be VERY GAY. My friends, Adam & Steve, are some of the best party planners in the city and they’re throwing a summer edition of their event Dessert at Absinthe in downtown Hamilton. On July 6th, Ivory Towers will be hosting the hot dance party, flanked by go-go dancers and queer people galore. There’s going to be the best butt contest and lots of sickeningly sweet treats throughout the evening. I’m beyond excited. This will be the party of the summer.
Cover is $8, and you can find more information on the Facebook event.
There are a LOT more events happening throughout the month, so be sure to check out PrideHamilton.com to see the full calendar. Be sure to say hi if you see me at any of these events, I love seeing my queer babes out and about!
What events are you excited to attend this month??
